OPERATING PROCEDURE OF PDC BIT
1. The Hole Preparation
①Make sure the hole is clean.
②If necessary, make a clean-up trip by the prior bit with a junk basket.
2. The Bit Preparation
①Transport bit in box to rig floor to avoid cutter damage.
②Remove bit from the box to wooden or rubber floor carefully.
③Inspect bit for damage.
④Record bit series No and model information.
⑤Check inside of bit and make sure it clear.
3. Making Up The Bit
①Fit breaker to bit and engage latch.
②Clean and grease pin.
③Lower drilling string to top of pin and engage threads.
④Locate bit and breaker in rotary table and make up to recommended torque.
4. Tripping in the Hole
①Remove breaker and lower bit through rotary table carefully.
②Trip carefully through BOPs,casing shoes and liner hangers.
③Trip slowly through ledges, dog legs and other tight sports.
④Wash last three joints to bottom with full flow at 50-60RPM.
⑤Tag bottom gently and pick up 6-12 inches off bottom.
⑥Circulate 5-10 minutes with full flow at 50-60 RPM.
5. Reaming
①Avoid small well reaming in long well sections.
②Reaming at tight spots with full flow to ensure sufficient cooling of the cutting teeth.
③Reaming with WOB of 2000-4000 pound and rotary of 50-60 RPM.
④Reaming slowly,avoid high torque.
6. Bit Break In
①Lower bit to bottom with full flow at 50-60 RPM.
②Compare expected and actual hydraulics.
③Record stand pipe pressure and pump strokes.
④After three feet, increase weight at 2000 pound and increase rotary to 100-200 RPM.
7. Drilling IN
①Determine optimum drilling parameters by changing WOB and RPM with recommended guidance.
②If torque or RPM cycling is severe, control with higher WOB or increasing RPM.
③In harder formations RPM should be reduced to maintain smooth torque and reduce cutter temperature.
8. Make Connection
①After making connection, lower to bottom slowly with full flow and 50-60 RPM.
②Check stand pipe pressure and pump strokes on and off bottom.
③Increase RPM to previous level and add WOB slowly.
9. Pulling Out of the Hole
①Slow down through tight spots, casing shoes, liner hangers and BOPS.
②Attach bit breaker and break out bit in rotary table.
③Avoid cutting damage when removing bit.
④Return bit to box after dull grading.
